Can this pump be used as a shallow well pump?
Yes, as long as the water level is within about eight metres of the pump and the suction line is airtight and correctly sized. Beyond that you need a submersible, not a surface pump. Undersized or leaking suction hose is the reason most surface pumps are returned as faulty.
Will it run from a small generator?
Yes. At 550 W it is within the range of the small portable generators common in these markets. Tell us the generator rating if you want us to confirm it, because motor starting current is several times the running current and that is what trips a marginal generator.
